The day started with good weather and ended with heavy rain.
In the morning, I took a long walk on the beach and went to Mount Maunganui. Despite the approaching weather change, there were countless surfers in the water at lunchtime. With the offshore islands, the high waves, and the white sandy beach, the scenery looked like a painting. I was only used to such waves on the North Sea during storms, here, to my surprise, we had decreasing water.
Unfortunately, it started raining heavily in the afternoon; the planned trip to Mount Maunganui literally fell through. This gave me the opportunity to plan my next few days. Tomorrow morning, I will take the bus (if the bus driver transports my bike) to Rotorua, known for its many natural thermal springs. There, I will ride the trail with the beautiful name 'Te Ara Ahi - thermal by bike', which will accompany me halfway on my way to Lake Taupo, my next destination.
