Mixed feelings

Pibliye: 21.10.2023

October 6th: Friday

The news that reached me in the morning didn't lead me to suspect that it would be such a beautiful day.

I don't want to say too many words about the message in question. Only that I will continue and finish my studies in Mainz.
It's not the end of the world that the move to Heidelberg wasn't meant to be. At first I was disappointed and sad, but after just a few moments I caught myself and now I see again the many advantages that Mainz brings with it.

After Sven and I went jogging to visit Palau Castle and had a small (non-cereal) breakfast, we set off with the camper to the Costa Smeralda.

I would like to briefly mention that Sven treats himself to a cappuccino in the campsite bar every day, while I only get an instant coffee after running because I have to look after the sleeping child. All jokes aside, Michel and Sven have developed a little ritual that I'm happy to share with them.

After a quick Google search, we decided to go to one of the top 3 beaches in Sardinia: the Spiaggi di Capriccioli.

I was expecting a fairly crowded beach despite the low season, but the opposite awaited us. Quiet little stretches of beach, located between rocks, and a few tourists and locals who did the same as us.

Already after the first steps into the cool water you could see small schools of fish and the further out you swam, the more diverse the animals became. Absolutely gorgeous.

Once again, Michel didn't want to take a particularly long nap and was otherwise a bit restless, so we left this paradisiacal beach after 3.5 hours. Apparently he doesn't need as much sleep at the moment, because he never seems overtired in the evenings and falls asleep easily between 7 and 7:30 p.m. We've also started eating dinner when he sleeps. Even though we both prefer to dine sooner rather than later, there is also something special about enjoying your pasta and not having a child in your arms at the same time, who usually needs something to do pretty soon. We're really missing some kind of high chair with a baby seat. Michel probably sits too low in his Baby Björn rocker (also for his taste) and can usually only stand it until the first portion is finished.

Today we decided to put the rocker away after this vacation. It is designed to hold up to 9 kg and Michel can bend the backrest quite a bit. I have no idea what he weighs now. But he could soon crack the 9 kg :D

On the way back we stopped in Porto Cervo, a small and very, very chic coastal town, to FINALLY have some gelato. After wandering around the deserted town almost in desperation, we actually found only one open ice cream parlor.

The ice cream was very good, as expected, and our cravings were satisfied.

Michel was allowed to take a shower before I put him to bed and in the meantime Sven prepared our dinner (quiz question: what was cooked?).

Since today I have the feeling that I have really arrived on vacation. Maybe it's because I now have certainty about what the next few months will look like and I want to make the most of my free time with my family. We've been traveling for a week now and again I can't decide whether it feels long or short. But since Michel was born, time is relative anyway.
