Day 19 - 09/28/23
Good evening Auckland. When we arrived around 8 p.m. it was already dark. Finding a taxi was easy and we were able to grab a bite to eat straight after checking in. Because of getting up early in Cairns and traveling, we were so tired that around 1 a.m. in the morning we simply ignored the time difference.
Day 20 - 09/29/23
We got up around 9.30am. In Germany that is 10:30 p.m. (previous day).
Auckland is a multi-cultural city with a significantly high Asian proportion.
The weather here is spring-changing with temperatures around 15 degrees.
This is nothing special for New Zealand, as temperatures here reach a maximum of 25 degrees even in summer. We live in the CBD zone, where everything is within walking distance and there is a cafe/bistro/restaurant on every corner. And so we had our breakfast in a typical Kiwi cafe before we bought a few supplies for the next 3 days.
The cost of food in New Zealand - and in Australia, by the way - is on average about 40-50% higher than here. However, the average income is below ours. Alcohol seems to be a luxury good. 1 liter of beer costs around 7.50 euros in New Zealand and is therefore more than three times more expensive than here.
Most shops here close at 6 p.m. Only restaurants and smaller grocery stores are open longer, sometimes around the clock.
