Day 31: Port Augusta - Mount Remarkable National Park - Clare

Pibliye: 23.11.2016

Today the sun is shining again, but it's still quite windy. We have breakfast, I wash our laundry and Michi enjoys the playground with the kids.

We drive from Port Augusta to Wilmington via the Horrocks Pass. The straight roads are history and we wind our way up the mountain with the motorhome. The hilly landscape is a welcome change. There is more traffic on the roads now than we are used to. Samuel is excited about flocks of sheep lining the road.

We turn around again and head south to Mambray Creek in Mount Remarkable National Park. There, accompanied by trillions of flies (it's the worst here so far, 'de san lesdig di Fliagn' says Sami), we take a one-hour hike. The circular trail leads from the parking lot to a small hill. From here, you have a great panoramic view all the way to the sea. At the parking lot and on the hike, we cross paths with a few emus. Almost at the end of the trail, we are lucky and spot a kangaroo in the bushes.

We continue towards Clare. Along the highway, we still see camels. We read in the travel guide that there are wild camels near Alice Springs. Since we are quite far away from Alice Springs now, we didn't expect to see the desert animals anymore.

The landscape changes again. Everything turns golden. There are huge fields of grain as far as the eye can see. Samuel is thrilled with all the tractors and other agricultural vehicles.

At around 5:30 p.m., we arrive at Discovery Park in Clare. We don't feel like cooking tonight, so we order pizza. Pancho's Pizza delivers directly to the camping site and we enjoy our meal.

Samuel slept relatively late on the drive to Clare today, so he has a hard time falling asleep. But eventually, around 9:30 p.m., he manages to do so. We dug out the thick blankets today. Last night we were quite cold with the thin sheets and we don't want to freeze again.
