Off to Airlie Beach - one of the must-dos for backpackers!!!
Arrived... walked around... hmm... no, we don't like it. It's a tourist spot with lots of bars, but nothing more. Luckily, we had a feeling the day before and booked a half-day kayak tour. =)
The Whitesundays are a group of 74 islands and very popular among tourists. One of the reasons is the many white beaches (the most popular one being the Whitehaven Beach, which is often used as a backdrop in Australia's advertisements) and great diving opportunities.
The Kayak Tour:
In the past few years, the organizers haven't seen any crocodiles during a kayak tour, so that sounds promising: let's go!
We kayaked about 6km and went snorkeling for half an hour. Unfortunately, all the corals there were destroyed by a cyclone in 2017. Such a shame!
We had to wear stingersuits for swimming - those are jellyfish protection suits:
Ninja time !!!! (that's not Caro =) )
But that's both of us
Many people go sailing in the Whitesundays, but Caro is so susceptible to seasickness, so we skipped that.
