In the meantime, we have left behind the beautiful city of Porto. There we had the last really hot day (30°) for now. From Portugal onwards, the nights were really warm as well. The huge waves were raging on the rough coast and the light was particularly beautiful! There is always something going on in the city - one evening we were at a hip hop jam, where Sebastian spontaneously had a little performance. The people were going crazy, even though they couldn't understand a word!
Otherwise, we finally found a laundromat in Porto, so now we have fresh clothes again. Hand washing is very impractical when you're about to move on, as the wet laundry drips all over the car. Also, we notice that the closer we get to the south, the more the water tastes and smells like chlorine. Before, we always tapped and drank tap water, but we prefer not to do that anymore. When you see how dirty the sea and the landscapes are here, it's no wonder that chlorine is needed to treat the contaminated water. Very sad!
Then we went to a nice Portuguese market where fruits, fish, and souvenirs were sold. We were already very impressed by the sweet pastries that are available everywhere in Portugal! The nature through which we drive all the time reminds us a bit of Ecuador - very dry, barren, and hilly. There are olive trees everywhere with ripe olives (too bad you can't eat them fresh) and mandarins, oranges, lemons, apples...often the fruits are already lying on the ground and going bad. So we don't feel like thieves when we pick them up ;)
In Portugal, there were fires in several regions again. We were lucky and always drove at the right time and only occasionally noticed smoke. It is definitely good that rain is forecasted for the next few days!
Naomi is slowly getting used to the fact that the bus is now our home. She is no longer as afraid during the ride when it gets bumpy and always enjoys exploring new places (as long as they are free of people). She diligently catches annoying flies in the car and always lets us know when someone is in sight. The best alarm system!
