Shangri La

Pibliye: 19.01.2018

For those wondering if I accidentally flew to Tibet instead of South America - no, luckily not. ;) In fact, Shangri La is also the name of a small town between Montevideo and Ciudad de la Costa. Thania, a Uruguayan friend whom I actually met on the Camino de Santiago in Portugal, lives here. I know, it sounds like a crazy coincidence, but for me it is a very fortunate turn of events, as she has invited me to stay at her family's house here. :)

After my arrival yesterday morning at the airport, I had the great fortune to rest and change clothes first - after all, it's midsummer here and the temperatures are accordingly high.

In the afternoon, I explored Montevideo, organized the ticket for the ferry to Buenos Aires, and tested if my orientation still works - luckily it does. ;)

Finally, I visited the Rambla, the beach promenade that stretches for about 20-30 km along the shores of the Río de la Plata (which actually means Silver River). But it has little to do with a river, it looks more like a sea.
Fortunately, there was still time to visit Parque Rodò (I had my room in this neighborhood last year) and have a snack of alfajores, a typical pastry from here - very delicious!

In the evening, there was a delicious dinner with pizza and fainà, a Uruguayan specialty made from chickpeas. What more could you want? :)

Hello again! I finally arrived in Montevideo yesterday morning - from winter to full summer. :)
My Uruguayan friend Thania came to the airport with her brother to pick me up, how lucky!
Now I am at her house in a town between Montevideo and Ciudad de la Costa called Shangri La, which is indeed as beautiful as the better-known place in Tibet, and the whole family gave me a very warm welcome. :)
In the afternoon, I spent time in Montevideo, reminiscing about the good memories from last year. The photos are at the top.
And let's not forget the delicious dinner of pizza and fainà. I hope the journey continues like this. :)
