Canal of Corinth and Acoustic Wonder in Epidaurus

Objavljeno: 22.05.2019

Yesterday my path led me to the Peloponnese peninsula. As the first highlight, Kiran and I passed through the Canal of Corinth. Built to shorten the sea route by almost 400 km (and not having to drive around the entire peninsula), it was completed in 1893. Impressive about it is its length of over 6000 m, its narrow width of 25 m and its height of 80 m. Also impressive is the fact that I notice that apparently my fear of heights increases with age. And crazy that the Roman Emperor Nero already had the idea in 67 AD to cut through the isthmus with a canal.

Our journey then takes us to Epidaurus to a famous theater. Famous for its fantastic acoustics. 12,000 people can fit here and when a tour guide sings a few notes in the round orchestra, I understand the acoustic wonder. A great place where I would have liked to stay a bit longer. BUT: It's almost 30 °C, I can't leave Kiran in the car or take him to the theater, so I tie him up for a short time in the shade next to the car.

After the theater, I look for a campground on the internet and I'm very happy with my spot near Nafplio. It couldn't be any better!

This morning the sun is taking its time and it's still below 20 °C. I grab Kiran and the bike and off we go! In these temperatures, Kiran is hardly recognizable, he speeds up, races with me, and I'm happy that my 10-year-old dog is still full of energy. Bring on the day!
