The fluttering window of the bags didn't bother us as much as we had expected. Morally, we have already processed yesterday's incident quite well and after breakfast we will go to the car rental place where we will pick up a replacement van for the last three days. Fortunately, we are only 45 minutes away from Auckland, so we quickly arrive at the 'Travellers Autobarn'.
We are greeted by the employees of the car rental place who we already know and together we inspect the damage. Contrary to our hope that the small sliding window of the sliding door would be the smallest possible damage, the boss tells us that the entire side window combination of the sliding door would have to be replaced - the fun would cost $800 (about 480€). Uff, we didn't expect that much. The man told us that if it had been a driver's or passenger's window, that would not have been a problem, as he still had dozens of them lying around. He also told us that it would not be more expensive than the stated price and that the microwave, which was also destroyed, would not be charged to us.
We exchange the car and set off again. Since it doesn't make sense for us to drive long distances now, we decide to spend the remaining days in the Auckland area. So we dash to a familiar resting place - the second one of our New Zealand trip, park there and take a break from the mental strain for a while. We take a walk on the beach, which we couldn't do last time because of the tide.
We save a few stranded starfish and watch in astonishment as some people stand in the water up to their hips in everyday clothes. On closer inspection, we realize that there are dolphins swimming in the water just a few meters in front of the people, swimming among the spectators. We have already experienced our dolphin frenzy, so we observe the spectacle from a distance and then return to the car.
We have processed the debacle of the break-in mentally as well as we can and enjoy the evening with a delicious dinner and some series.
