Day 15 - Visit from the Ranger

The day starts with a visit from a ranger from the 'Thames-Coromandel District Council' and a 'Camping Warning Notice' (no buses).

We stayed a few meters outside the allowed zone for self-contained campers overnight. That's not allowed - shame on us! Anyway, he is very friendly and just gives us a warning. So for the upcoming night, we will follow the two arrows and stay within this boundary zone.

Today we head to Coromandel Town without breakfast, as it's too windy to eat outside. After a quick shopping trip, where we buy fresh and delicious bread for the first time - we have already become friends with crispbread and toast - we have breakfast at the playground and picnic area. Then we drive to the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula. We make a stop in Whangapoua and walk to New Chum's Beach, which is only accessible on foot and beautiful...

To get an even better view, we crawl on all fours up a small hill at the end of the bay. 'H.A.Doppel M.E.R Hammer yeah!'

After the beach and climbing excursion, we stop at Luke's Kitchen in Kuaotunu and enjoy a Gingerella in the sunshine. As it is still windy, we don't notice that we are getting slightly sunburned. But it's not so bad. At Luke's, we also take advantage of the free wifi. We are accompanied by Fido* the sheep-guard dog (*Name unknown to the editorial staff).

And it's time to look for a place to sleep again. Since we want to see Cathedral Cove tomorrow, we drive in that direction and try our luck nearby. But there is nothing to find. When we arrive, the parking lot is full and not to our liking at all. So we move 10km further (or back) to Cooks Beach. We find a quiet and idyllic spot. We spend the night here and enjoy the last rays of sunshine.
