It's another one of those moments where I sit in front of my phone and can't find the right words for what we just experienced.
I'll just say this: Rottnest Island, or rather Wadjemup (original name), is a true paradise. We are both sure that we have never seen a more beautiful place and that's crazy considering all the places we were able to see on this trip alone. So I want to stop comparing from now on.
All places are special and beautiful in their own way. And Wadjemup was one of those very special places that leaves you speechless and simply happy and free.
I had high hopes for this trip but never imagined that the day would be so perfect. That the island would make us so happy.
Very early in the morning we set off by car to the port of Fremantle. From there we took the speed catamaran to Wadjemup.
We got out there and got tickets for the hop-on hop-off bus. We actually wanted to go cycling but unfortunately Kian is still too small for the child seats.
First stop: Parker Point. What a sight. Sooo clear water, reefs, fish... and the cliffs. Wow.
While I was breastfeeding Kian, a quokka tried to crawl into our buggy. Quokkas only live in Western Australia and most of them live on Wadjemup. There are only about 17,000 quokkas, which are threatened with extinction. 10,000 are said to live on Wadjemup. They are known around the world as the nicest animals in the world because they smile a lot. When Siar tried to chase the little sparrow away from the buggy, it didn't look very friendly hahaha but later we met another really cute one.
From Parker Point (Kian had fallen asleep by now) we continued on foot. Past Little Salmon Beach to Salmon Bay. And this beach really took my breath away. You can see it for yourself in the pictures. The water is so clear, the beach is so white and soft... the reefs. Simply amazing.
We stayed there for quite some time before visiting Little Armstrong Bay and Parakeet Bay (it was here that Kian woke up again).
At the last beach I was snorkeling and something attacked me and I had pustules on my arms that burned. A girl had it really bad on her stomach and back. Her arms...
But for me it's gone now. And everything's fine. Unfortunately I couldn't see what it was, but I think it was a jellyfish.
Then we unfortunately had to head back. We went to eat a burrito (siar) and a rice bowl (me) and then went back to the hotel. Fremantle is a really cute suburb of Perth, by the way, we really liked it.
We are so grateful. Another highlight at the end of a trip that consisted almost entirely of highlights. Maybe I even shed a tear or two of gratitude in between Hahahah
We have exactly one week left. Then we're going back to Hamburg and I think it will be the hardest journey home ever. But until then we'll enjoy every second, catch every ray of sunshine and hold on to every moment that we get to experience together, for eternity.
