After crossing a relatively calm Drake Passage and the Strait of Magellan, we arrived in Punta Arenas today around 06:00 AM, the place where the extraordinary adventure started 13 days ago. We don't know if anything can top that. Anyway, today we are setting off to start the next part of our journey. We say goodbye to new, beloved acquaintances (a reunion is guaranteed), get off the ship, and go to the car rental. The smooth processes of picking up the car remind us of Germany. The car is okay and will safely take us through Patagonia in the next few days.
The first destination is Puerto Natales. This is where all the tours to Torres del Paine National Park start. The first 200 km of the stage are flat landscapes and .... flat landscapes, until after a small hill the impressive mountains with their white caps can be seen in the background.
We arrive in Puerto Natales, a small, but very well-kept town where you can stock up. The ideal starting point for backpackers. Our hotel is located slightly outside. It is beautiful with a great view of the water, an extension of the Patagonian fjords. The view from the bed is incredibly beautiful.
The plan is to leave again tomorrow around 06:30 AM and drive to Lake Pehoe. There we will take the ferry across the lake and hike to the Grey Glacier.
By the way, rain gear is essential in Patagonia. The weather is constantly changing here.
