Good morning, Africa! Unfortunately, today we must say goodbye to the Vyn Guesthouse and our new friends Martina and Klaus. It’s really a shame, but today we’re heading to Stellenbosch!
But first, we thoroughly enjoy the fantastic breakfast one last time. You could say it's a feast fit for kings – and we are the monarchs!
After we have packed everything into our bags, we say a heartfelt goodbye to Martina and Klaus. Somehow, we all feel like we will see each other again.
Kai starts our diesel giant and steers our group towards the vineyards. This time, the ride in the Fortuner is a bit more relaxed than yesterday’s rapid journey. We cruise through a dreamlike landscape and enjoy the view.
Kai pulls a hot tip from his pocket: the vineyard of Ernie Els, the former South African golf pro, is a must-see! Well, that sounds like a good idea!
The vineyard is indeed a real eye-catcher, with views of the vineyards on one side and the majestic Table Mountain on the other. At the entrance, we are unexpectedly handed a glass of rosé and encouraged to enjoy the day. Oh yes, we can do that!
Ernie Els is famous for his red wines, and while Kai falls in love with the Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, Kristina can only enjoy the aroma of the wine – she unfortunately has to skip the taste today, as she's driving us further.
This means for us: Off to the new accommodation, the Stellenbosch Manor!
After a short drive, we check in at Stellenbosch Manor. The house looks like it’s from an old English film – cozily furnished and the rooms are so large, you could dance a line dance in them.
After unpacking, we set out to explore Stellenbosch on foot. It’s a sweet little town that doesn’t look at all like Africa! Everywhere are small shops, bars, and restaurants – a perfect place to feel at home.
For dinner, we’ve reserved a table at the famous steakhouse Fat Butcher. Steffi has taken care of this weeks in advance because without a reservation, you have no chance there! Great idea from her!
Kristina and I share an amazing 1.2 kg T-bone steak and we bravely fight against the portions. Steffi and Kai have each treated themselves to a 300-gram fillet steak with various sides and sauces. I swear I have never eaten such a delicious steak – a must for all meat lovers in Stellenbosch!
To finish off, we have an Amarula – and then it’s time to head home. It’s good that we have to walk a bit, that helps with digestion!
Everyone retreats to their room. Kristina and I close the room door behind us and sit on our veranda. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a gust of wind slams the terrace door shut. No problem, we thought. But the door has locked itself, and we are trapped on the terrace. Great!
The reception isn’t manned at night, and the hotel staff isn’t on the premises overnight. So we have to call agents Steffi and Kai: “Can you please let us in?”
Now we are in the hotel, but we still can’t get into our room, as the door is locked from the inside and the key is in the lock. Agent Steffi has a brilliant idea: she gets a placemat, knife, and spoon. Together, like Bonnie and Clyde, we try to fish the key out of the lock with the cutlery. Spoiler: it doesn’t work!
Steffi in her red nightgown makes a sexy agent – we could shoot a movie: “The Agent in the Red Negligee”!
Finally, we have no choice but to call the hotel’s emergency number so someone can let us in with the spare key. What a drama!
Now, however: Good night, Africa!
