Whitehorse

Hello,

Today our route took us to Whitehorse, the capital of Yukon. Along the way, we passed by the Yukon River and several lakes, some of which were still frozen. In the river, we also saw our first otter swimming with the current in the light blue water. And at 'Johnsons Crossing', we definitely had to stop and try the best cinnamon buns you can get in Canada.

When we arrived in Whitehorse, it was initially strange to be in a larger city with proper streets and traffic lights again. Here, 30,000 of the total 38,000 people who live in Yukon reside. After shopping, we went to a German restaurant in the evening to enjoy some good German food. And I have to say, the schnitzel with spaetzle was really amazingly delicious!
Our campsite for the night was located just outside of Whitehorse, right by a lake. We planned to stay there for two nights.

The next day started with shopping, showering, doing laundry, and making use of the Wi-Fi. It was also time for the first oil change of my car, as I had already driven over 5,000km. In the afternoon, we visited the 'Beringia' museum, where we learned a lot about the history of Yukon during the Ice Age. During that time, a land connection called Beringia formed between Alaska and Russia due to the low sea level. The museum was very interesting, including the huge replica of a mammoth, and we also read a lot about the life of the First Nations.
Afterwards, we went to Miles Canyon. It was a truly beautiful canyon with a wooden bridge, and the water of the river was a vibrant turquoise color. We went on a short hike along the canyon before returning to our campsite in the evening.
