Fourth Stop: Victoria Falls Part 2

Objavljeno: 10.02.2018

Yesterday around 3pm, we went to Victoria Falls. Unfortunately, it started raining right at that moment. The tour includes a walk with various lookout points where you can see different parts of the waterfalls. Even when the sun is shining, you will get wet due to the constant spray of water. Since it was raining heavily, we got completely soaked in no time. Even my own raincoat and the borrowed yellow raincoat didn't help much. Despite packing my camera in three plastic bags, I was constantly worried about it and only took it out once 😄 but it was a good decision. It was impressive to see the power with which the water masses plunge down the cliff. The Victoria Falls have even more water during the rainy season, making them completely filled and even more impressive than during the dry season. It was just a pity that the visibility was reduced.

Back at the campsite, we took advantage of our nice showers and got ready for our traditional dinner. Although I didn't enjoy most of the food, it was a great experience. Each of us got to wear a traditional garment, there was singing, dancing, drumming, and we could participate in everything. We also received a small traditional face painting, and for fun, two girls and I got some braids done (see photo 😉).

Since the alarm clock rang again at 5:30 this morning, we went to sleep afterwards. For the first time, we kept all the "windows" of the tent open, as the clear starry sky indicated a dry night.

As hoped, this morning we woke up to a blue sky for the first time on our trip! I could have jumped for joy. At 6:30, the twins and I were picked up for our lion walk 🦁. Similar to the previous day, we were able to walk, pet, and "play" with the lions. In groups of six people, we spent an hour with two lions each. Our lions were 8 and 13 months old and are being raised there to be able to survive in the wild when they are old enough. These lions were not born in the wild but bred, as the lion population in Africa has decreased by 80-90% in the last 30 years and their future presence needs to be ensured. It was a truly amazing experience to be so close to the lions, but the very high price compared to the previous day was not really justified. But I'm still glad I did it 😊

We were already back by 10 am and then went to a lookout café with everyone else, where two of us did a "George Swing," a kind of bungee jump. Since the weather was still good, the view was gigantic. You can see the famous Victoria Falls Bridge, which connects Zambia and Zimbabwe, and the Zambezi River, which looks harmless just behind the Victoria Falls.

This afternoon, I enjoyed the sun and laid by the pool. I might go into town for a bit later, although I've already spent enough money 😉 but there are just too many beautiful souvenirs here. Except for three of us, everyone else is going on a sunset cruise where all drinks are free. But since the high price doesn't justify for my low alcohol consumption, and we have already done two boat tours and will do another one tomorrow, I won't join the tour. However, we will all go out for dinner afterwards 😊

Today is our last night in Victoria Falls, and tomorrow we will continue to Kasane, back to Botswana. From tomorrow onwards, I won't have internet anymore, so I can only report about the last few days on Thursday when I'm back in Windhoek.

Until then, sending you my warmest regards ❤️❤️

P.S. Especially during the carnival days, I wish I could have been with you. Celebrate for me!!
