After our initial snorkeling trip yesterday, today we are going for the next one. For this, we choose one of the best snorkeling spots on the island - the Ahihi Natural Reserve, about 50 minutes drive from our location. Once again, we drive along the coast with surfers accompanying us - a spectacle every time.
When we arrive at the sleepy snorkeling bay, we are among the few snorkelers there - just the way we like it. Additionally, we are lucky that the sun is shining just for us, because the clouds often hang over this spot and prevent all the fish from shining in their full glory.
Entering the water is not so easy in this very rocky and narrow bay - especially with fins on our feet - but we gladly take on this challenge...
This time you can see for yourself the fish world, the underwater camera has served us faithfully again.
But even this snorkeling spot is no substitute for the unique reefs on Big Island that are still waiting for us. Although we encounter many different species of fish and I can even spot a small octopus, the water is unfortunately not as clear and relatively restless even in the early morning.
Afterwards, we browse through a small mall nearby - in the Tiffany Store we are looking for the hidden goldfish :)
On the way back, we make a stop at the swimming pool, where I meet my "favorite lifeguard" from last year for the first time. We brought Nuremberg sausages all the way from Germany for him, which he got to know and love during a trip to Germany (according to his report last year). He was overjoyed and wanted to buy sauerkraut at the supermarket today so that he could enjoy a feast tonight. It's amazing how small gestures can bring joy to Hawaiians.
We spend the afternoon relaxing on the beach in front of our door and take a leisurely stroll through the port town of Lahaina before dinner.
After a delicious dinner with a Hawaiian specialty called Poke (pronounced Pokie) - Asian marinated fish cubes, in our case salmon, with rice and vegetables, we end the evening comfortably and dream of the Hawaiian fish world!
