The seven hour time difference is starting to take its toll. Although we stayed up until midnight, we still have a slight jet lag. That's why we started our first full day in Bali at 6 am. And with the worst breakfast I've ever had in my life. Vegan, sugar-free, and gluten-free is simply not a good combination for a delicious breakfast. We were given a piece of paper to choose from a selection of components to create our breakfast.
The result:
A sugar-free green tea that tastes like grass.
A small fruit plate with three slices of watermelon, papaya, and half a banana - hard to go wrong with that.
A gluten-free pancake with peanut butter and banana slices - edible.
Two slices of vegan and gluten-free bread with some peanut butter and homemade - naturally sugar-free - pineapple jam. I won't say anything about it.
It's better to go to the beach, enjoy the sun, which is mostly hidden behind the clouds during the rainy season, and watch people learn to surf. After observing and analyzing for a while, we are convinced that we already know enough about surfing to try tackling the waves without a teacher tomorrow.
Lunch - which was more like a late breakfast - made up for the bad breakfast at the accommodation. Quinoa bowl with avocado, vegetables, and poached eggs - very delicious!
After a beer at the beach, we went in search of our first perfect hostel. We wanted to leave the gluten-free food behind and to be honest, a Smoke and Alcohol free Zone doesn't really suit us. Plus, we really want to make some cool acquaintances soon, which is much easier in a hostel. We didn't expect that our search would end in a kilometer-long trek through streets filled with hundreds of motorcycles, which are the preferred mode of transportation here. But in the end, we found one and what better way to celebrate than with a relaxing time by the pool.
