Today we explored Noord-Beveland... we started at Banjaardstrand. Beautiful wide sandy beach with relatively shallow water, which especially attracts families with (small) children.
Then we went to the fishing village of Colijnsplaat. In addition to the idyllic marina, the reconstruction of a Roman temple is particularly worth seeing. It is dedicated to the goddess Nehalennia. The name means something like "disappearing in the fog". She was a Germanic goddess and was particularly worshiped by seafarers and traders. In the 17th century, after a heavy storm, remains of such a temple were found near Domburg, and in the 1970s, fragments of an altar were found in the water at Colijnsplaat.
Funny are the Prasthuisjes (little chatter). Protected from the wind and rain, the locals meet here for a chat about God and the world.
The tour continued via the rose garden near Kats to what is probably the most beautiful avenue of silver poplars in Zeeland near Geersdijk/Stekeldijk.
