So it was time today, the destination of the day was North Cape. Everything went well. Sunshine, empty roads lets go. The kilometers flew by. We became more and more excited. We knew that until 30 km before everything would be relaxed. Then refuel, shop and top up oil. Everything in Honningsvåg, the last corner of civilization. Then it started. The first 15 km led us to the mountain peaks. The road was simply up and cleared. Some cars came towards us. Then there was a junction about 13 km before. A sign indicating convoy driving, we misread it and thought that we would be able to pass well if there was no convoy. It continued uphill and became very windy, and the snowdrifts got bigger. The rocking was pretty intense. Then behind a curve, there was a snowdrift that we couldn't pass through. Damn it 😡 less than 10 km separated us from the northernmost point of Europe. But it was no use, we had to turn around. So first backwards in the snowfall and strong winds, and then turned around in an emergency bay. We completely underestimated the weather and the rest of the return trip was pretty tough. The wind increased so much in such a short time and the gusts pushed us hard against the mountainside. But two more motorhomes came towards us. A Frenchman and a person from Cologne.
Back in Honningsvåg, we stopped at the gas station and took a deep breath. We later learned that there was a severe storm coming and that it would last for about 2 days. So we knew that we would stay here for at least two days. The parking lot at the gas station proved to be sheltered from the wind, so we stayed there. The Frenchman later parked next to us. The next morning, we learned in town that the people from Cologne had made it to Nordkapp but couldn't leave and came back down in the morning with the snow plow.
