Going to leave after breakfast to Tunnel Beach. Need some exercise today! Tunnel Beach is a steep descent and ascent along the cliffs. 2 hours of morning exercise. The beach can be reached through a tunnel carved into the rock, leading to a bay.
After that, moving on to Sandfly Bay. Morning exercise part 2.
Going steeply down to a long sandy beach that can only be reached by crossing huge sand dunes. There are sea lions, seals, and penguins on the beach. It's the wrong time for penguins, the sea lions are lazily lounging as usual, and the only seal is playing dead 😋. Walking along the beach once and back. The total distance today is now 19 km, but there's more to go. But first, lunch break in the parking lot. After driving through Dunedin, heading to the steepest street in the world. Baldwin Street. My new travel companions have already warned me enough, so I can fully enjoy the spectacle. People from all over the world painfully climb up the truly very steep street! You can see the most absurd modes of transportation. And at the top, everyone wants a photo where they look strong, to have a good laugh at the tilt. But the best part is going down. After some have already reached their physical limits on the way up, new techniques are developed on the way down. Some Chinese even think they can fly now, but luckily they laugh at themselves just like I do.
After a detour, I drive to Shag Point, a nature reserve north of Dunedin. After a short walk, I've seen enough for today and look for a campsite with unlimited hot shower in the nearby Moeraki Village. It's about time after two and a half days.
