My week has been a bit chaotic because we got all our university classes mixed up. Instead of random English, we get Spanish in the evening at 9 o'clock, something that doesn't even exist 😅 It's very relaxed and chaotic here, we meet up for coffee about 5 times a day, we have so much time... but maybe it will normalize soon..
I'm glad that the 5 of us came from WU to Valencia (Sophie, Julia, Suzi, Michi), and we're really good friends with the girls. (Michi is coming in February). We laugh a lot together and we've met at least once a day so far, either to have lunch together or just to not spend our break alone.
In addition, I met a German girl, Theresia, who is also very cute and through her, I got to know the German company.
WU students (Sophie, Suzi, Julia, Michi)
It's great that I'm actually using all my language skills and that I can communicate in all of them (Hungarian, German, English, Spanish). For now, I speak more German than in Vienna.. :D
For the next 3 days, we're living together with the WU students in an Airbnb, then from February we'll move to a normal apartment (separately). I'm curious who I'll be living with :)
Yesterday, we cooked pasta and made homemade sangria with the Austrian girls, it turned out really well, it was very homely :) As an appetizer, we had pan con tomato, which they eat here in a strict order: 1. spread garlic on toasted bread, 2. spread tomato on it, 3. pour oil, 4. sprinkle salt.
University:
Most of the classes are mainly for Spanish students, and obviously they're a more cohesive group, so they don't necessarily open up to the Erasmus students. But now that there aren't that many Erasmus students, they still gather in the English classes, so they form a quite close-knit group.
The classes are more theoretical, not that exciting. Sometimes we waited for 3 hours for a class or I woke up at 8:30 when I was half sick and it got canceled / was only 10 minutes /... It can be a bit annoying at times..
Parties
There's some kind of event / Erasmus party almost every day. So I didn't sleep much and I got sick again because of the cold.
We had the first Erasmus party on Monday: beer pong with cheap sangria and paella all night with lots of Erasmus students :) On Wednesday evening, we went to an Erasmus salsa party. (It was more of a party than salsa).
On Friday, everyone went dancing to the disco (it usually starts at 1am and goes on until 6/7 in the morning), but unfortunately I stayed home and slept. I was pretty sad, but that's how it goes..
Since then, we've been to Tandem partner meetups, Erasmus exchange meetings, the beach, an art market, drinking in a WG, a restaurant, .. these are just for this week.. :D
On the weekend, we visited a market next to the beach, there were very abstract artists with interesting objects. It was great to walk along the beach and feel the sunshine and the sea air. Later, we went to a restaurant with the Austrian girls and in the evening, we chatted at a juice bar with the roommates. Sunday was pretty bad weather and nothing was open, so the 8 of us wandered around the city center. Meanwhile, we found a free paella on the street and we went for coffee / bakery / beer / shopping every hour.. I'm spending money at a bad pace :D
WG
I finally moved into my own room :) Emma was home (a French girl, 19 years old, works as a waitress here for another month), and Simon (an Italian guy, a waiter, moved out this week). They're very sweet and funny people, they immediately invited me to have lunch, hamburgers nearby, and showed me where to find what/which store,.. I speak Spanish with them :)
Sonja (a German girl, works as a German teacher) also moved out this week, but still they're a cohesive and nice group :)
Later, I only met Nicoló, a very interesting character. He's Italian and works as a researcher for the university (supposedly). He's only willing to speak Italian, so communication is a bit difficult...
Today, Daniele also arrived, he's also Italian and can communicate in English more or less, he's also cool.
There's also a German girl living here who I haven't talked to much yet (works as a German teacher).
The kitchen is quite dirty and they often smoke there. My room is very cozy. Unfortunately, it's very cold everywhere. On the second day, I bought a small heater..
