Happy Easter everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter holiday. We heard that the weather wasn't very good. But as long as there were a few Easter eggs and nests to search for, it's bearable :)
We only noticed Easter incidentally this year. Mainly because we received a few Easter gifts from home! (Thanks again for that!) :-)
But we still had a real feast! Mex did some fishing in the sea... Mhhhm! And there was delicious fish again!
We have already arrived in Honolulu again. So we have circled the island in 5 days (with a day off due to a storm in between!!)
We liked it. Especially the cycling was a lot of fun again. In the evenings we were very exhausted, but we deserved the snack even more!
In the last few days, we have been to a few beaches. We went snorkeling, which was really fun. And Mex even dived with 2 sea turtles! We saw a whale (or even several) in the distance, and I finally had time and trees to set up my hammock again.
Yesterday there was a thunderstorm, and we decided to stay one more night at the campsite. That was a good idea because it gave us the chance to bring our finances up to date once again. Result: Hawaii is definitely too expensive ;-)
By the way, the way back to Honolulu was not very pleasant. We drove on roads that completely resemble Austrian motorways! So much traffic, two or three lanes, and we drove along the hard shoulder. Hm, let's see how it will be on the west coast of America.
Oh yeah, before I forget: I bought a hula flower necklace 3 days ago! It worked wonders. I hadn't even had it on for 3 minutes and the first American already approached us, asking how far we were cycling and how great it was ;-) And then another one 10 minutes later.
Even in the evening, when we once again had the problem of not finding accommodation, someone immediately offered us help, and we were able to stay at the campsite after all. From that point on, we definitely no longer had that weird feeling of being homeless!
So for us, it was clear - it was a lucky necklace :-)
We are now back in Honolulu, in a 'hotel' (more like a motel, but well, at least it costs as much as a hotel), and we have to think about our next steps.
Should we fly to another island? It will cost us quite a bit again! But somehow we haven't seen enough of Hawaii yet. And everyone is so enthusiastic about 'Big Island'. Where can we get bike boxes to take the bikes on the plane? And above all, how do we get the boxes to the airport? Where can we store the bikes if we fly to another island? Which flight should we take to the mainland of America? And how much will our luggage + bikes cost for the flight? Etc. etc.
So as you can see... there is a lot to organize!
Wish us luck!
