2. Day on Prince Edward Island

On my second day on Prince Edward Island, I rented a car. The costs were comparatively high because I am still under 25 years old and therefore the insurance is very expensive, but I really wanted to go to the beaches in the north of the island and unfortunately there are no buses going there. The day has been one of the most beautiful of my entire trip and has more than made up for the journey to the island!

So on Thursday morning, I picked up the car and set off. The car was automatic and I rented a small one, so I quickly got used to it.

The first place I went to was Thunder Cove Beach. It was recommended as a hidden gem on the internet, but everything that is recommended as a hidden gem on the internet is usually not so secret anymore, so I was prepared for anything. The journey there was a sight to behold: an empty, wide highway and on the side either a snow-covered field or snowy trees. I used my phone's navigation and when I was almost there, I had to leave the highway and take a road that was not cleared of snow, so the snow was very high. With good confidence, I drove through it and ended up on a road... or rather a lane full of mud. At the end of the road, I reached my destination. I stopped in the middle of the road and parked. When I got out, I was almost blown down the dune by the wind, that's how close the edge was and how strong the wind was ;) A few meters further was a marked path, so I could walk down to the beach, where I had to let this mega view sink in for a while.

Since it was very cold, I sat back in the car and continued driving. Unfortunately, I couldn't reach my next destination, a beautiful view at a lighthouse, because the road was closed due to too much snow.

After that, I drove to North Rustico. This town is located on the Gulf of St. Lawrence, which is the largest funnel-shaped estuary on Earth and flows into the Atlantic. Here too, some roads were full of mud. Fortunately, it was a rental car, so I didn't have to clean it afterwards ;)

My journey continued to Robinson Island, which is located in Prince Edward Island National Park. The park is the tourist highlight of the province, which was noticeable in the expansion of the roads, parking lots, and signage. The road to Robinson Island was very long and relatively narrow for Canadian standards, so that only two cars could pass each other. On the right and left were the sea and the sun was above. This was a car ride that I will not forget so quickly. Here, I couldn't drive directly to the beach, so I parked and then walked through a small forest. When I reached the water, I walked around the island. The air, the wind, the smell, and the sounds of the sea reminded me of the many trips to Croatia... a dream!

Brackley Beach is the most famous beach on the whole island and it was also the highlight of my day.

Continuing in the National Park, I also stopped at Covehead Lighthouse, Stanhope Beach, and Dalvay Beach.

My last stop was in Greenwich, also part of the National Park. Here, I was by far the only person around and on the way there, I didn't encounter a single car. But the drive was worth it and I saw the sun set slightly behind the clouds.

Back in Charlottetown, I had to refuel the car. But I think I did a good job refueling in a foreign country ;) The man who received the car had to smile a little at all the dirt, but he kept his comment to himself ;)

In the evening, I looked at my pictures and realized that all the beaches look almost the same. However, I liked each one so much that I can distinguish them in all my pictures and could hardly decide which one is the best photo.
