The great bike tour Day 7: Augsburg and Munich gravel plain

प्रकाशित: 28.04.2022

Despite the highway noise, I sleep surprisingly well. According to Weather Online, it is currently +1°C in Augsburg, but the city welcomes me with warm spring sunshine. You can tell that you're in a bigger city by the school classes wandering around and more or less motivated to engage with culture and architecture.

Augsburg was founded by the Romans about 2000 years ago, it breathes history, and back then Munich was at most a collection of three cowsheds. I stay in the city for a long time, explore this and that, of course the cathedral, and I'm delighted by the dialect of the two old gardeners taking care of pansy beds and lawns in the Fronhof.

Heading south means going upstream on the Lech River, I spend my lunch break on one of the big gravel bars. I've come to love these places by the river a lot, and I would love to just stop cycling and stay here. But I'm meeting my sister in Olching tonight, and it's still about 3 hours away, which usually turns into four. The navigation app, of course, doesn't account for the east wind, which slows me down from an average of 15 km/h to 13 km/h in the plain, just like it did on the Main River. But that's just how it is, there's nothing you can do about it :)
