Since it is raining in Cecina today, we set off for Volterra. Our first impression of the diverse landscape of Tuscany is confirmed on the way to the fortress town.
After probably 3/4 hour of looking for a parking space, we finally climb the steps to Volterra. A TIP: the earlier you get there, the better 😳. But after a few steps we are rewarded with a beautiful old town with classic alleys. Hustle and bustle surrounds us everywhere, children's laughter and all the languages of the world.
Volterra is a fortified city in Italy, southwest of Florence. The bell tower of the central Palazzo dei Priori, decorated with medieval frescoes, offers panoramic views of the city. Volterra Cathedral has a marble entrance and a gilded coffered ceiling. Nearby are the remains of the Etruscan Acropolis.
We stroll leisurely through the streets and enjoy the colorful life, the wonderful views and the special flair of the city. Up to the old city tower we have a special view over the city.
There is a lot to discover and we are slowly getting thirsty for coffee and of course we can't miss a typical Italian pastry... very sweet, very massive... Very 🤤 delicious!
Oh how wonderful, there is something to discover in and around the houses everywhere, you can always be amazed at the new and the old and also at the creativity here in Tuscany.
After a lovely time, the first drops of rain drive us back into the car and to Cecina, where a delicious meal with the family awaits us. 👨👩👦👦
