Day 4 "on Tour with Rudy" through the Dolomites

प्रकाशित: 11.06.2022

The view in the morning from the camper is just as great as in the evening. At an altitude of 1,300 m, it's still cold in the morning.

For breakfast, we drive back to the parking lot in front of the pilgrimage chapel and have breakfast there. Despite it being Saturday, it's still empty and heavenly quiet here.

We have a coffee at the bar and use the super clean toilet facilities.

The next destination is Lake Carezza

The lake is located in the western Dolomites in the Latemar Forest, about 20 kilometers southeast of Bolzano at an altitude of 1520 m. The approximately 300 m long and 140 m wide lake is fed by underground sources from the Latemar mountain range. The depth and size of the lake vary depending on the season and weather, with the maximum depth being about 22 m. The small mountain lake is famous for its deep green water and the forest and mountain scenery surrounding it.

We park in a parking lot where the parking ticket for a motorhome costs €10 for 2 hours and walk around the lake.

The shades of turquoise are unbelievable. Seems like a photo opportunity for Instagram photos. People simply ignore all barriers. At the parking ticket machine, we pay €1 because there is no option for motorhomes.

We continue through the Dolomites via the Karapass, Passo di Giau, and Passo Fedaia.

Endless switchbacks, cyclists, motorcyclists, and rallies through the Alps. It's so crowded that we can't even stop at the top of the pass.

To be honest, I'm glad that Jürgen is driving. I don't really trust myself with all the climbs and curves.

We're going the wrong way on the Giro d'Italia route and see all the markings on the road on the climbs.

We're putting a lot of strain on the brake pads on the seemingly endless downhill road. You have to be a little crazy to ride a bike up here.

We have a coffee break at Lake Dobbiaco and realize that our bike rack is tilted.

We probably hit something while turning around. So we take the bikes off, remove the bike rack, and reattach everything.

We continue to Sexten, always keeping an eye on the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, which have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. In our opinion, rightly so.

We find a parking lot and go shopping first. Mountain cheese, ham, Vinschgau bread, salami, things we can't get at home.

In the wine bar in the town, we have a ham and cheese platter again and drink Aperol for €4.

The waiter gives us a tip on where we can park with the motorhome overnight. So we move the motorhome again.

After taking a walk through the town, we stop at the wine bar Mühle for another Aperol. Here in the wine bar, a glass of wine costs €2 and the Aperol is €4... unimaginable in Cologne.

I think we will sleep well 😴.
