Markets
Today was the first proper day with the host family. What does the first proper day mean? Well, I spent the morning with another au pair in Fremantle. Fremantle is about a 15-minute train ride from Claremont. The special thing there is the markets. From the outside, it looks like an old train station with a large hall, but when you enter, you are met with hundreds of unfamiliar smells and loud noises. The markets are divided into two halves that seamlessly merge into each other. One half is all about food. Lots of fruits, tea, homemade items, and sample jars. The other half consists of homemade products and Australian specialties. If you leave the markets through the northwest exit, you will come directly to the harbor and the beach. The waves there come in very quickly due to the current and crash against the stone walls at the edge of the beach. We left the beach by walking through the old town. After that, we took a bus for about 35 minutes to get to Claremont. That's where things got exciting for me. I had my first driving lesson. Every car takes some getting used to. But, what's important here in Australia is: Keep left!
