25.08.2019. Today we explored the southern part of the island Öland. We saw many of the typical windmills of Öland.
Our first stop was the bird and seal sanctuary Eckelsudde. From the bathing pier, we enjoyed the beautiful coastal landscape and the absolute tranquility. There were a lot of birds to observe and I was convinced that there were seals to see further out on the rocks 🧐.
We continued south with a stop at the grave field Gettlinge. Only stones - but somehow impressive.
Arriving at the southernmost end, we first climbed up the lighthouse Långe Jan. At about 27°C, I already regretted this idea after a third of the steps. Exhausted, we arrived at the top and were rewarded with a great view of the coastal landscape and the many birds. To strengthen ourselves, we had coffee and cake ☕🍰. The last kilometers before the lighthouse were also exciting. Here, sheep were running freely and they didn't feel like making way 😂.
On the way back, we passed by Borg Eketorp. The castle with its impressive ring wall dates back to the 4th century. The buildings inside the wall have been partially reconstructed. This gives a very good impression of what life was like at that time. During the main season, performances take place. Since we were there outside regular opening hours (the castle is always accessible), we were completely alone here and could take over the castle without resistance🏳.
