12. Durrës (Albania)

This time we are driving only 40 km further to Durrës, also to be able to take a trip to Tirana from here. Along the beach promenade, you can find sun loungers, restaurants, and hotels, as almost everywhere. 

For example, in the 60s, an amphitheater from around 200 AD was accidentally excavated during the construction of a house. The surrounding houses are still being demolished as the excavations continue.

And then, just a few steps away, you suddenly find yourself on Hollywood Sunset Boulevard!

Our super nice and incredibly funny landlord Jlli spontaneously offers to be our sightseeing guide, and we drive through Tirana and to Kruja together. Such a beautiful and funny day, we were well entertained! (For 'The Big Bang Theory' fans: it was like being in a clown car)

Thank you Jlli for making our stay in Durrës so special! 

To avoid having to drive up to North Macedonia again later from southern Albania, we are now making a detour there. But we are very relieved that Albania is not yet over for us - we are far from being done with this beautiful country!
