New Year's Eve in Guadalajara

प्रकाशित: 01.01.2022

New Year's Eve is overrated, with this attitude I have done well in the past years. I couldn't follow the expectation to celebrate and toast the calendar coincidence. The beach and party enclave Puerto Vallarta wasn't available for that either. The city was fully booked, every hostel bed and Airbnb was taken.

Therefore, together with Andy, we reserved a vacation rental in Guadalajara and bus tickets for the five-hour drive there. The luxury bus cost extra, but also offered all kinds of amenities, WiFi, entertainment program, legroom and air conditioning, as well as gender-separated toilets.

So I could doze off, outside the landscape passed by, first jungle, then barren mountains and almond fields, on my screen 'Alicia en el país de las maravillas' played in Spanish.

Arrival in Guadalajara around 5 p.m. I had been practicing for three days to get the name of the 5 million metropolis somewhat correctly on my lips. Guadalajara, named after Guadalajara in Spain, is the second largest city in Mexico.

Unlike Puerto Vallarta, the city was quite deserted, stores and a large number of restaurants were closed for the holidays. Central fireworks were canceled due to Corona.

In the end, I was in bed at half past eleven and fell asleep at 00:15 (7:15 a.m., Berlin).

Update: The hotel breakfast at the Marriott the day before was eventually charged to us.
