Hey guys!
Today we had real parade weather: rain AND wind at a proud 12 degrees.
So we had a cozy morning in the camper and after lunch we wanted to stretch our legs a bit despite the weather. We found out that the 'Duncansby Head' (one of the local attractions) was only 800 meters away from where we were. That sounded quite nice: a short walk, see something, and then back.
Thanks to the wind, the rain was whipping beautifully in our faces. But no matter, it's not far... Once we got there, we were at a lighthouse, but the main attraction (two sharp stones on the coast :D) was 0.75 miles away. So we kept walking - we were already on our way and wet as well.
When we got to the coast, we saw these rocks and they looked really cool! I asked Kevin, 'what do you think, can we get down there?' He smirked and pointed to a small gate through which one can probably go down to the other side of the fence. We walked there and actually: a muddy, steep path led under the cliffs. To hold on, there was a rope attached, which was more of a hindrance than a help :).
Down there, it was only stones and they were sooooo slippery! We wanted to get under the stone arch - on the one hand to find shelter from the rain and on the other hand, we were curious once again about what was behind it.
At this point, our jackets had already let in water and let's not even start on our pants....
We slid, climbed, crawled, and actually walked partly on the wet stones. It was a short distance, maybe 400-500 meters, but we needed almost an hour each way! When we arrived at the stone arch, we saw that there was no way forward: there was water right behind it. So we took a few photos and went back the same way. By the way, the sweater was already wet too. We joked that we were glad to be past the age where we could come home and explain to mom why we look like pigs again :D. The downside: now we have to figure out how to get this stuff clean again :)).
Once we reached the cliffs, we decided to walk cross-country back to the camper. Right through the sheep pasture. The path was shorter, but just as strenuous.
After about three hours and wet up to our undershirts, we made it back to the camper. Turn up the heating and put our feet up!
We spent the afternoon watching movies and sitting comfortably.
The weather should be better tomorrow! We are optimistic :).
So, until then :)
