Day 6 Fynbos Golf Resort and St Francis Bay

प्रकाशित: 24.02.2023

After completing the approximately 90-minute drive from P.E. to Fynbos Golf Resort, we were quickly able to check into our room and then play a round of golf. The atmosphere was more than impressive. We played a round of golf above the Atlantic, more or less successfully. When we wanted to have lunch at the resort in the early afternoon, we experienced the South African everyday life for the first time on our trip. No electricity. Therefore, no food. We decided to drive to St Francis Bay at short notice. According to Google Maps, there are several restaurants there. But the restaurant where we ate our pizza was far from being the highlight.

The town was characterized by villa after villa. There was a canal in the town through which the residents could travel by boat from A to B. Of course, each garden had a pool. During a small "town tour", we saw one luxury villa after another. Some gardens had several people in them. It looked a bit as if the owners would come here on weekends and start the weekend with the neighbors. Instead of garage beer, there was pool champagne here. All the villas were equipped with camera systems and alarm systems. In front of the houses, there were employees who controlled access. It felt a bit like in a movie. But the two of us really didn't fit into the movie. And on the way home, we saw what unfortunately South Africa also stands for. While some people enjoy the start of the weekend with champagne, just 15km further it's all about survival. A slum. Shack after shack and begging children on the roadside. The disparity between the rich and the poor has never been more clear to us than here. We talk about this topic in school. But it is only here that we realize how big the gap can really be and how close the two worlds are to each other.

By the way, the pizza was great.
