Due to initial issues with my credit card at the airport, it took some time to get our visa. When we were finally allowed to enter, we went straight to Emy's place in Mount Lavinia by taxi, where we were warmly welcomed. After chatting for a while and having a beer, Judith and I went to the beach in the afternoon, which is only a minute walk from Emy's apartment. There, a local came up to us and told us about Sri Lanka and took us to a turtle farm. I can't say if the animals are well taken care of there. He told us that the turtles are released into the wild when they are bigger and can survive on their own. But it seemed more like a source of income for the owner, and the turtles are always there.
In the evening, we went to a restaurant by the beach with Emy's friend, where we ate well and had some beers :-)
There was also an acquaintance with us and we had interesting conversations!
The next morning, we went to Colombo to buy a train ticket to Kandy. Later, we visited a Buddhist temple. By noon, we were back in Mount Lavinia with Emy and spent the rest of the day relaxing on the beach. There was no alcohol on this Sunday, as it was a full moon. Apparently, a Buddhist holiday.
Currently, we are waiting at the train station for the train to Kandy. We are very excited, as it is supposed to be one of the most beautiful train rides in Asia. I hope that turns out to be true and I can take some good snapshots.
edit: there wasn't much to see, just a few nice views of the valley.
See you soon.
