Happy Birthday Mats

We had originally planned to celebrate the day by flying over Denali National Park and around Denali itself in a small aircraft, and then land on a glacier.

Unfortunately, the weather had other plans and we had to cancel the flight.

We went to the roadhouse for breakfast instead. There, we met a couple from Vienna and had a great conversation. He owns two restaurants in Vienna, named NACHBAR and USW. Now we have another reason to visit Vienna.

In the afternoon, we drove to a lake to take a walk. In the middle of the forest, we had an unusual encounter with a husky who was all by himself. We were a bit uneasy about it, but the husky was very happy to have company and decided to join us. He wagged his tail and followed us all the way to the car, and he would have liked to get in too.

Back at the hotel, we celebrated Mats' 50th birthday on the wooden terrace by the river, with quiche and blueberry pie.

We had dinner at the pizzeria in Talkeetna.

That's how his 50th birthday was. But the atmosphere here in Alaska, and being able to experience the best catch of his life, is gift enough... he says 😘.
