How nice to randomly come across a BBQ restaurant in the immediate vicinity of the accommodation. We placed our order with the friendly staff. Steffie opted for Pulled Chicken and Chicken Wings, along with Jalapeno Cornbread, Mac n Cheese, and Green Beans. I chose Pulled Pork, Pulled Chicken, Mac n Cheese, and Cole Slaw, which was so delicious that I ordered another batch for us. Oh, and I also ordered a Pulled Pork Sandwich as it was the special of the day.
Steffi was particularly impressed with the Chicken Wings, which were first smoked and then lightly fried. They were also seasoned really well. The Cole Slaw was similar to previous visits to BBQ restaurants in Charleston - light on mayo but heavy on vinegar. Both the Pulled Chicken and Pulled Pork were tasty. The sauces offered were all vinegar-based, one of them with mustard, one slightly sweeter, and one with chipotle. We both enjoyed the Mac n Cheese. It was noticeable that it was baked in a casserole dish.
Overall, Bessinger's seamlessly joined the series of great BBQ restaurants in Charleston, both in terms of flavor and price.
