Bad Säckingen is beautiful. We ride through the town once again and onto the bridge. Europe's largest covered wooden bridge. The bridge was opened in 1272 and somehow you can smell that it's really old - but it doesn't smell unpleasant. We like the feeling you get from such old buildings, "imagine all that has happened here..." you can let your imagination run wild.
Today's route is only short, it's only about 40 kilometers to Basel.
It's a shame that we Germans just can't manage to make the Rhine cycle path great. It must be admitted without envy that in Switzerland, there were probably people with more heart and mind involved in the planning. Our tour on German soil is once again really boring. Industrial areas, boring residential areas, no view of the Rhine, dangerous intersections, and poor signage - that's unfortunately how it is! As soon as we are in Switzerland, we ride along the Rhine on well-marked paths and enjoy it.
In the afternoon, we arrive at the hotel in Basel and quickly settle into our quarters, then we march across the Rhine bridge right next to the hotel into the old town of Basel.
To also meet our professional interests, we take the opportunity to visit the Museum of Architecture.
We enter the first room where there is a special exhibition on the topic of SwimCity. Because in more and more cities, people are swimming in rivers again. We have observed this repeatedly on our tour. A beautiful thing!
Now we want to visit the main exhibition: instead, we find an exhibition on the topic of "erotic relationships with robots." Speechless, we look at the installation by the artist and leave the room directly.
Okay, wrong section.
Next room: 3 sofas tilted to the side with ash-like gray dirt on them - we don't know what the artist wants to say with that.
There is still a staircase leading upstairs and now we finally want to see architecture. Upstairs, we walk through 2 empty rooms and now find ourselves at the end of the exhibition. Mario wants to leave the building because he thinks it's stupid, Petra stands for a while in the foyer looking for cameras and thinks of a clever phrase in case Guido Cantz comes around the corner with a grinning face. Please let us know if you find us in the "hidden camera," because no one came to explain this nonsense to us.
We stroll through the city on foot, the beautiful streets and squares - lively bustle in the city - today it's 32 degrees here and it feels really nice like a summer vacation.
For tonight, we have come up with a special highlight, but we'll report on that tomorrow.
