Week 2 Krems - Budapest

प्रकाशित: 24.06.2018

We have had an eventful week. Shortly before Vienna, we camp in Klosterneuburg. It's great for a while until thousands of little beetles decide to invade our tent. They can fit through everywhere, as small as ticks. Not even our luggage bags are spared. We have no other choice but to set up the tent in a different location.

The next day, we visit Vienna on our way. It's so crowded, with hordes of tourist groups, that we decide to leave Vienna on the beautiful bike path earlier than planned. We spend our last night in Austria just before the Slovakian border in Petronell-Carnuntum, where there are Roman excavations.

Bratislava is our next capital. Unlike Vienna, it's very relaxed, with a beautiful pedestrian zone in the old town and delicious ice cream!

Shortly after Bratislava, we unknowingly cross the Hungarian border. The paths change significantly. Everything is available, from two-lane asphalt to gravel, clay, mud, and potholed asphalt. Sometimes quiet on bike paths, sometimes on heavily trafficked roads.

The campsites become simpler. One night, we are all alone in the garden behind a pub. Then in the beautiful city of Györ, we can use the garden campsite of a nice family. Even our laundry is done in the washing machine by the nice mother. In the evenings, there is a lot going on here, with cyclists from Australia, Switzerland, Spain, and a Hungarian youth group creating a great atmosphere. During the night, there is a violent thunderstorm, and the heat of 35 degrees is followed by cool days under 20 degrees.

After 1138 km, we have arrived in Budapest.
