September 4th - Travel day to Krakow - Short visit to Katowice

प्रकाशित: 05.09.2021

Travel days are exhausting. Breaking down, packing up, getting on each other's nerves (with me being the active party in my impatience) and crossing Poland from north to south, it takes a toll.

But in the end, we arrived first in Katowice and finally in Krakow.

The visit to Katowice, where my great-grandfather comes from, was limited to a lunch and a quick drive through the (in my opinion?) old town center.

We came into the city from the northwest, and what you see there is pretty creepy. I didn't have time to take a picture because I was driving and didn't want to stop. But here's a picture from Wikipedia.

Katowice new center.

But until then, there are still almost six hundred kilometers to go. And the landscape mostly looked like this:

There are of course also forests (mostly pine) and a lot of construction sites. I was glad that I didn't have to drive but could deal with the geography and history of Poland.

Katowice is quite young. From the ugly Silesian village, it developed into the city that can still be seen today thanks to its coal deposits in the nineteenth century.

For lunch we had Bresaola and Burrata at a local Italian restaurant. Even on request, they didn't serve bread, which prompted us to order a Margherita pizza since Pizza Pane was also unknown. After seasoning the dishes with salt and pepper, it was really delicious.
