12.01.2019 - Swakopmund and the seal colony

प्रकाशित: 12.01.2019

The drive yesterday from Sossusvlei to Swakopmund was relatively uneventful and with 350 km almost short. The only interesting thing was the car cemetery in Solitaire at the beginning of the journey.

Equally unspectacular was Wavis Bay, an industrial location and the only deep sea port in Namibia under South African protectorate until 1994.

However, Swakopmund itself is really worth a visit. Located directly on the Atlantic, very neat, very German in the center and with the widest streets and the most parking spaces I've ever seen in my life. A paradise for drivers. Let's see if we can get used to the congestion in Europe again.,,,

The next day we had the choice of visiting a "moon landscape" recommended by the hotel owner nearby or driving to Cape Cross (130 km one way) to see a seal colony there (including a ship sung 11 years ago on the way)..

We chose the colony and did not regret the trip....

Tens of thousands of seals right in front of us, and since the seals give birth to their young in December, most of them were young....

It was really very impressive, unfortunately somewhat spoiled by the smell, which also comes from the carcasses lying around, because the coyotes living nearby hunt here at night, as we were told...

Evening ending at Tiger Reef with a perfect sunset....

A few pictures from both days....
