15th day - from Pivka to Selce

How much does a car consume per hundred kilometers? 6-8 liters? Ok, fits ... also for cyclists.

Because of the heat, we started today at about 7 o'clock - towards the border to Croatia.

We reached it relatively quickly (of course, dear God had added some altitude meters on the way) and we were just making good progress when the Croatian bike paths intervened, which the navigation system had chosen as a target. Well, they were targeted, but more like riverbeds instead of bike paths. We had to push often.

So we approached Rijeka, the altitude meters melted away - right? Quiz question: How high is a place on the coast actually?

After leaving Rijeka again, we had to overcome a promontory - and 'whoosh' (2 liters of water later) we were back up - where a strong wind was blowing against us.

At some point, after some ups and downs, we reached the famous coastal road (without a bike path), opinions about which differ widely: some consider it suitable for daredevil cyclists, others consider it almost paradise after the construction of the motorway and the resulting relief. We will give you our verdict on that at a later date, dear readers.

We had chosen a campsite in Selce as our destination after doing some research on the internet, and we had already circled it three times without finding the entrance, which caused some annoyance to both of us. A tourist couple from Germany (by the way: German is spoken here) told us about the inexpensive and unoccupied apartments in Selce. What can we say: we are currently sitting on the balcony of one of them (immaculate living space, only slightly more expensive than the very messy campsite). In general, one should answer the question of whether camping is a cheap alternative; the cheapest spot for our small but sufficiently long tent cost 22 euros (in Möllbrücke), here in Selce it would have been at least 30 euros. 16 years ago in France on the tour to Lourdes, the prices were 5-10 euros per night.
