Hi guys,
the song "36 degrees and it's getting hotter..." is slowly becoming a reality. It's super hot, we generally enjoy it, but sometimes we also feel like we're melting!
After a relaxed breakfast, a morning bath in the river that flowed into our campsite, and a little sunbathing, we set off towards "Caloundra". On the way, we made a few stops at a second-hand store and the gas station to buy some cold drinks. Just like in New Zealand, the gas station here sometimes has better deals on cold drinks than the supermarket! It's funny when you compare it to Germany. When we arrived in "Caloundra", a really beautiful seaside town, we headed to McDonald's first. After we were satiated by the meal and bought some cool BigMac socks for €2.5, we went to the beach. It was beautiful! Then we went swimming in the ocean for the first time here in Australia. Together with many locals, we bathed in the "Pi-warm" Pacific and let ourselves be carried by the waves! Suddenly it became super windy, so we, covered in sand, left the beach and went to the public saltwater pool.
Of course, we gratefully took advantage of the public shower and finally, fresh from the beach and tired, headed to our campsite. We made a quick stop at the supermarket, where we bought everything for our dinner.
When we arrived at the campsite, it was already dark. The campsite was located in a forest, so it was really pitch dark. Nevertheless, we cooked ourselves a nice dinner and then went to bed, satisfied.
But in bed, I was already too tired to write a blog entry, which is why I'm writing this one day later. A whole day has already passed, which was again filled with beautiful weather and the beach.
For breakfast, we had the leftovers from yesterday, straight from the pan like savages. Then we packed up all our stuff and headed back to "Caloundra" because we really liked it there.
The first stop was the hardware store. Here we bought a new water canister because our previous one unfortunately gave up the ghost.
Then we had a quick "Café to Go" and to withstand the midday heat, we decided to stroll through some shops. At an outdoor outfitter, I found something that might make our journey a little easier. It's about a water bottle that turns any kind of water into drinking water. This works with the help of a filter that removes bacteria and other impurities from dirty water and the mouthpiece releases completely purified water. I've heard a lot of good things about it beforehand, so of course, I have to try it. This bottle won't replace my constant companion, my HydroFlask, but it will definitely make our camping life easier because tap water here in Australia is almost never drinkable.
When it was a little cooler again, we went to the beach. We strolled along a cool path along beautiful bridges and then fell into the sand. Unfortunately, we couldn't swim today because the waves were simply too high, but we were able to cool off with a shower afterwards.
Since Ann-Estelle was really craving pizza, we went to Domino's after showering, where she got herself a pizza. I didn't feel like pizza, so I just made myself some toast with fried eggs and baked beans on the campsite, typical British style.
A cheap, delicious, and above all very satisfying dinner that I/we will definitely make more often now!😊
Now we're back in our rooftop tent and will go to sleep. Our campsite is not that nice today, but considering that we only want to stay the night here, it's not that bad!
What we will do tomorrow is still uncertain, but that's also what makes traveling so exciting, right?
In any case, I'm already looking forward to the day!
Greetings from Caloundra, Australia!🇦🇺
Yours, Tim!😊
