Day 72 Kakadu National Park part 3

प्रकाशित: 22.08.2022

  • On the third day in the Kakadu National Park we were exploring the area around Burrungkuy/Nourlangie, known for its aboriginal rock art sites.
  • First walk is the Burrungkuy/Nourlangie Anbangbang Shelter walk. It is a walk up to at first the Anbangbang Shelter followed by the Incline Gallery and the Anbangbang Gallery. At the shelter Aborigines were gathering in the wet season and were drawing different animals and also stories to teach their children the rules. The walk then goes on to Kunwarddehwardde lookout for some nice views of the area.

The next walk is the short but steep Nawurlandja lookout walk for some views on the area.

  • The Nanguluwurr walk is another art gallery walk. Stuart was very excited to see the ship with which the Europeans arrived, so he joined this longer walk through the sun to the art gallery.

On the way to the cultural centre we saw another lookout sign, so decided to go for the Mirray Lookout walk. Well, the walk is steep up to a lookout platform (at least in the shadow) but without a real lookout.

So 'warmed' up by all the walks of the day, we were cooling down in the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre while reading some aboriginal stories and information about animals, food and tradition. In the cultural centre no photos allowed. So the Kakadu National Park photo is from the Ikaymarrwa Falls (Rock hole) lookout: with near the end of the dry season there is no waterfall, so no point to drive or walk there. Back in Pine Creek some time left to watch the birds always flying away upon our arrival at the accommodation.
