Day 28 Waterfalls & Wildlife Day

प्रकाशित: 14.07.2022

Early start to get in time to Etty Bay Beach to watch the Cassowary on its morning walk looking for breakfast, picking up fruits and seeds, wandering on the beach and then back into the forest before later crossing the street just as we left. Fascinating creatures! Very rare - so everyone tries to get good photos. As the Cassowary can attack and hurt people a safe distance is always required and Stuart remained at home for his safety.

After coffee & breakfast a short stop at the camping shop to finally get a camping chair. Then a short photo stopp at the sign-posted Crawford Lookout before heading to the Waterfall circuit with 3 Waterfalls on the way

First waterfall is Ellinjaa falls, where you walk down a well maintained staircase to see the waterfall.

Second fall just around the corner is Zillie falls. There is a small lookout near the carpark, but you can't really see the falls from this angle. So we walked down a slippery way to the bottom of the fall and with some rock climbing we were able to see the waterfall in its full beauty.

The last and most visited waterfall is Millaa Millaa falls, also a safe water pool for swimming, so Stuart wanted to join. The weather wasn't warm enough for a swim, so after taking some photos we decided to move on.

Next stop was Mount Hypipamee to have a look at the Crater, a deep hole created through a volcanic explosion. On the way we also went down for a short walk to the Dinner falls.

The final stop for the day was then again the Yungaburra platypus viewing platform and river. This time we were lucky and were able to watch a platypus swimming in the river for quite a while.

Back in Innisfail we wanted to go to the supermarket for some groceries for dinner, but even supermarkets close here on Saturdays already at 6pm. So luckily we had some 'emergency groceries' with us in the car to cook dinner this very successful wildlife and waterfall watching day.
