After a couple of quiet days in Karratha we leave for the Karijini National Park staying in Tom Price for some days of walking and exploring the park. On the drive there you already have nice views at the landscape, funny cattle signs and not so funny warning signs about blue asbestos in the park.
Before driving to Tom Price or the main part of Karijini National Park, there is Hamersley Gorge to visit. The drive to Hamersley Gorge was pretty quiet, only mining trains, mine workers and birds on the road, but as soon as you reach the car park of Hamersley Gorge you know where all the people are. Before going down into the gorge, we walked the couple of hundred meters up a small hill for some views into the gorge.
Walking down into the gorge is over steps down to the water rim. To explore the gorge itself you need to go for a swim. The water is very cold and with the clouds and only a bit of sun, it is a short swim.
After warming up a bit in the sun, we went for the walk up to the Spa-pool. Well, the way is slippery and scrambling over some rocks avoiding to slip and fall into the cold water. After climbing the ladder we arrive at the Spa-pool, but the water is not as clear and nice as in the gorge, so no swimming again.
On the way back to the main street on our way to Tom Price we discovered a trailer with a toilet on top. Stuart immediately suggests that we just add this trailer to our car (tow-bar and controller is fitted), so we have our own toilet with us for the next camping stops...
