In my host family, meals are served three times a day, and due to their Hindu beliefs, the diet is vegetarian. The host mother has two women who help her with cooking. One also cleans the house, and the other sweeps around the house.
Breakfast always consists of different items. I always drink a very delicious tea without milk in the morning. Often, there is roti (flatbread) with dips in small metal bowls, toast with jam and mayo, or muesli with milk. The Indians surprisingly use a lot of milk and butter. Breakfast varies greatly from day to day, which is a significant contrast to my everyday oatmeal in Germany.
Lunch in the school canteen is quite cheap. Nothing costs more than €1 (because it is subsidized).
Dinner almost always includes flatbreads and rice with delicious dips in metal bowls. (see pictures) My absolute favorite dip is paneer (somewhat like tofu) and dal (lentils). There are street food stalls everywhere along the road. There is a lot of street food, and (I have tried street food a few times) it was very tasty.
When traveling outside the society, one takes either a car or an auto-rickshaw. The auto-rickshaws are similar to motorcycles in Rome.
