Brisbane- die unterschätzte Stadt/ Brisbane- the underrated city

Mit dem Bus von Cairns nach Brisbane in einem Rutsch- machen nicht viele. Unterwegs gibt es zahllose Stops, die sicherlich einen Halt wert sind. Aber auch in 7 Wochen kann man nicht alles sehen und man muss schauen, wo man hin will. Die Reise im Bus war weit komfortabler als im Flugzeug- Liegesitze, WIFI, USB Anschlüsse um die Geräte aufzuladen- alles was man braucht.

Der Weg ist das Ziel- ich habe viele kleine Orte gesehen, es gab öfter kleine oder auch mal größere Pausen und so konnte man relativ viel auf der Durchfahrt sehen. Einige der berühmten Orte der Traveller sind bestimmt überschätz, andere wiederum wirklich sehr ansprechend. Allerdings gab auch die Wetterlage Anlass, direkt so weit wie möglich in einem Rutsch Richtung Süden zu fahren- ein Starkregengebiet, das die halbe Nordostküste unter Beschlag hält (immer noch), schien es mir ratsam zu machen, gleich nach Brisbane zu fahren. Während der Fahrt hat der Regen auch immer mehr zugenommen. Und was soll ich sagen? Alles richtig gemacht! Habe mit ein paar Travellern über Whatsapp Kontakt und die Straßen sind alle total überflutet und teilweise weggebrochen- die sitzen bei Wind und Regen irgendwo in der Pampa fest und auch in Cairns ist Land unter.

Als ich in Brisbane am Montag ankam, war der Dauerstarkregen schon auf leichteren Regen mit Minipausen zwischendurch reduziert, Dienstag war zwar noch viel Regen, aber nur mehr Schauer. Heute ist alles in sehr hellem grau, aber man erahnt die Sonne schon; ab morgen ist dann besseres Wetter angesagt.

Ich wollte eigentlich noch nach Noosa oder Frazer Island- beide Orte bekannt für ihre Super-Strände-, aber da tobt der Regen- fällt also aus! Aber es gibt ja eh hunderte Sachen zu tun- kein Beinbruch. Gestern habe ich die Stadt und die ersten Sehenswürdigkeiten erkundet und das Museum angeschaut, heute geht es in die Southbank (westliche City), wo das ehemalige Gelände der Expo in eine Freizeitzone mit Strand , Pool, Bars, Cafes, etc. umfunktioniert wurde. Dort ist auch das Museum of Modern Art, welches ich mir heute anschauen will.

Morgen geht es ins Koala Sanctuary , wo ich meine ersten Koalas sehe... Känguruhs soll es da auch geben... und alles zum anfassen..;-)))) Der Weg dahin ist verbunden mit einer gut 1 stündigen Schiffsfahrt auf dem Fluß ins Landesinnere. Wie mir ein weitgereister älterer Herr sagte, wäre das die beste Attraktion der Stadt überhaupt...;-)

Wohntechnisch habe ich es gut getroffen- in einem Zimmer mit Luxusbad in einem Penthouse. Hier lebt auch der Vermieter mit seiner Tochter und deren Freund, von denen ich aber nicht viel höre und sehe- alles eher in sich gekehrte Typen. Habe heute schon mal Wäsche gewaschen- alles vom Feinsten hier.

Brisbane selber macht einen sehr guten Eindruck- das kleine Sydney mit dem besseren Wetter wie mir alle sagten. Alle haben mir versichert, dass es so einen Regen seit Jahren nicht mehr gegeben hat ...;-) Mit den Öffis kommt man gut von A nach B und man wird oft angequatscht, wo man denn herkommt, wenn man mit Stadtplan suchenden Blickes herumsteht. Alle sind sehr hilfsbereit.

Will noch an die Goldküste runter und vielleicht nach Moreton Island, wenn das Wetter sehr viel besser wird und auch nach ins Chinatown von Brisbane. In der Stadt selber hat man einee kostenlose Fährverbindung- schöne Sache, denn der Fluss zieht sich wie eine Schlange wellenförmig quer durch die Stadt.

Driving from Cairns to Brisbane non-stop- not many people tend to do this- quite a long trip. On the way down the coast are several stops, which would be defintely worth a stop, but even with 7 weeks you can't do it all and have to prioritise your personal points of interest. The journey in the bus was quite more comfortable as I thought- especially compared with a flight. Free WIFI, USB charger at every seat and you could put the seats in a lying position- all fine.

The way is the goal- there are many stops on the way down the coats and you have a couple of short and sometimes even longer breaks in between. That way I was able to see quite a lot on the way. A few famous towns of the traveller are definitely overrated and but there are also a couple of very nice looking destinations. But due to the weather report it sounded right for me to go directly to Brisbane- very heavy rain was expected for the northern and norteastern coast (and still is). On my way down the rain started and got heavier and heavier. And what should I say? Done it all right! I have contact to a few travellers via Whatsapp and it is all flodded and lots of them are stucked somewhere in the nowhere. Cairns is drowning in rain!

When I arrived at Brisbane on Monday, it was not that heavy rain anymore, just rain showers with mini pauses. Tuesday there were rain showers only with even bigger dry breaks and today the sky is light grey, but you can almost see the sun. From tomorrow onwards the sun is supposed to be back.. ;-))

Originally I wanted to go to Noosa and Frazer Island- both places are famous for there super beaches- but due to ongoing heavy rain at that area, I have to skip that- but doesn't matter... there are hundred other things to do. Yesterday I explored the City of Brisbane with all its importants sightseeing monuments and visited the museum of Brisbane. Today I am going to visit Southbank (western city)- the former area of the Expo, which is nowadays a recreation area with Beach, Pool, Parks, Cafes, Bars, etc.. is supposed to be very nice.There is also to find the museum of modern arts, which I plan to see today.

Tomorrow I am going to visit the Koala Sanctuary, connected with a one hour boatstrip on the river. This is supposed to be one of the highlights as an older man, who travelled quite a lot, told me. The are also kangaroos and all of them can even be touched..;-))) So I get finally to see my first Koalas...really looking forward!

My room at Brisbane is absolutely top- a room in a penthouse with my own luxury bathroom. In this penthouse also lives the host with his daughter and their friend- they are nice, but quite reserved and I hardly get to see them, which is fine for me. I just did the washing- it is all top equipped here.

Brisbane itself is a really very nice city- the small Sydney with the better weather as many people told me. These heavy rain showers are quite unusual as I was assured...;-)) You get easy from A to B with public transport and you get often asked of people where you come from and if they can be of help, if you stand around with a map in your hands, obviously looking for directions. Everybody is very helpful.

Plan to visit the Gold Coast and Moreton Island if the weather allows. A  visit of Brisbanes China Town is also on my agenda. The city has got a cost free ferry connection, because the river flows through the city in waves- very comfortable and entertaining.
