7th Day Storms River - Addo Elephant Park

प्रकाशित: 14.02.2019

Today we start off along the Garden Route and a section of the famous Route 62 to the surfer's paradise of Jeffreys Bay. We reach our accommodation near Addo by lunchtime. In the afternoon, we go on a sunset and night safari in an open 4x4 vehicle to the Addo Elephant Park.

The first settlers in the Addo region unfortunately decimated the elephants in the old days to just a dozen in order to protect their fields and crops.

This led to the establishment of the national park in 1911, which today is home to the BIG FIVE - elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, and leopard.

Postscript:

When driving through the beautiful African nature on a motorcycle, many thoughts come to mind.

It's crazy, today we passed by townships with 500,000 people and saw a lot of suffering and poverty, and as a tourist, you then come to such little paradises like our beautiful accommodation.... as a small consolation, you can at least say that the employees here earn a little money.

Oh, I was wrong about our tour guide, I wrote that he knows the Garden Route like the back of his hand.

No, he actually knows every pothole on our route of about 4000 km and warns us in advance when to expect potholes. ;-)

Photos will follow...
