19.02.2023 from Chapman River Camping on Kangaroo Island to Pt. Wakefield

The alarm clock rings at 5.45 am, we have to get up. It's still dark and we do all the tasks without daylight. The first kilometers are still dark, here and there wallabies are standing by the roadside, sheep are running across the road. But we are cautious. The ferry is punctual, all booked vehicles are on board. What else should they wait for. There is hot coffee and WIFI.

Today we are moving, which means we are driving a good distance without stopping. We still watch out for the beach drivers and the million city Adelaide , but soon we have made progress and stop for the first time on the way to Port Wakefield. Coffee machine is not working, food is not available, toilets are not available, that is no service, when a busy roadhouse next door invites you to eat and drink.

But we continue driving only another 50 km, then we are in Port Wakefield, a small town that became wealthy before the turn of the 20th century because copper was mined and shipped here. But then this place fell victim to the fate of so many others. Nothing happens here anymore. They make the best of it, nice playground, large campsite, swimming pool, which really invites you to swim because it is filled with seawater over the tides. Today we eat in the pub, there is steak and fish, what else. And now we are here, squeezed between campervans in one place and waiting for the morning. Because it was laundry day.
