14.01.2023 from Mudgee to Capertee NP

The parrots wake us up early, calling us not to let the day go to waste, which we don't want either. Once again, we spend a good hour on the World Wide Web and book 2 campsites in the NP. Otherwise, we won't be able to stay there, why not, read on.

The nice lady at the Visitor Center in Mudgee recommended a hiking trail to us, according to my specifications about 5 km, and it turned out to be 4 km one way, but that's OK. We start walking through a sparse forest, strong eucalyptus trees are dying, thin fir trees are taking advantage and already shaping the forest scenery. The path is easy, we hike quite fast. We don't know what to expect and are surprised to find a sandstone mountain that reminds us of Angkor Wat or the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. We scramble up, not so easy, and pose for daring photos. We quickly return, the sun is high in the sky and scorching. We will reach our destination today. Finally, a fairly large lizard crosses our path and quickly scampers up a tree, not wanting to be caught, but who wants to catch a lizard anyway?

Our campsite is located about 100 km further in the next NP, we have booked in advance. The roads are bad, the tracks as well, but thanks to all-wheel drive, no problem. At the barrier with a combination lock, we read the confirmation email from the NP again, indeed there is a numeric code in it, we are impressed. Even more so, because thanks to the WEB de app, we can also read the emails offline, which have been opened once.

The campsite is spacious, we don't want to get on each other's nerves, at the nearby river we not only discover a black kangaroo, but also the first live snake. The first one (we have been in Australia for a total of 4.5 months). It cools off in the water and will pay the kangaroo a visit.

There's a lot going on here, we like that. The campfire is already burning, and that puts a smile on my sweetheart's face.
