...and I did it again today. But walking through the midday heat really exhausts me. The family advises me to buy a bike. Well, it won't make it cooler, but at least I'll get there faster. Another alternative is taking a taxi. A ride within Granada (no matter how far) costs 20 Cordobas for "extranjeros" (foreigners), which is about €0.70. Payment is per person. The taxi driver always picks up everyone whose destination is somewhat on the way and who can still fit in. That's why you never know exactly how long the trip will take.
Anyway, no matter what I decide, Elena will walk alone tomorrow.
After 4 hours, that is, 4 classes, in the project, we newcomers are completely exhausted. I currently walk home together with Maggie from the USA. We walk through Pantanal together until we reach the small intersection where you can get a taxi. Yesterday, there was another passenger in the taxi and we took a detour through the heart of Pantanal. The streets were full of people hanging around in front of their run-down huts, without a steady job, without meaningful occupation, without education, without perspective, every day. Hey, if anyone ever thinks they have a crappy job, I know a few thousand people who would gladly trade!
Tonight, I went to a kind of sports studio for yoga. I treated myself. In general, Nicaraguans are extremely unsportsmanlike, so you mostly meet tourists and other foreigners. I once asked Carla, my host from last January, if she walks to the supermarket. There are two big supermarkets and a daily market within a radius of maybe 300 meters from her house. She replied without looking up from her smartphone: "I don't walk." If there was a parking space at the garbage can...
No, kidding, not everyone is like that. On the contrary, the bicycle, for example, is a very popular means of transport.
The photo shows the small side street where I live, in the low red house.
Temperature above 30 degrees, humidity felt high, light wind, no precipitation.
